According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, plastic and other waste materials such as fly ash, iron and steel slag are being used as waste material. The cost of these roads is less than that of normal asphalt roads and their age is older, that is, they do not break quickly. In this way the cost of its maintenance is reduced.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued policy guidelines in this regard, as well as rules/manuals published by the Indian Road Congress (IRC). The purpose of using this waste material is to reduce the cost of construction, conserve the country’s natural resources, and promote sustainability. In addition to the road, the use of waste on the sidewalk is also being promoted.
