A government alert said authorities have noticed many fake websites and mobile apps collecting data from applicants and charging exorbitant fees. The alert states that the ministry has noticed various fake websites and mobile apps collecting data from applicants and charging high fees for completing online applications and scheduling appointments for passport-related services (additional payment). Some of these fake websites are registered with the organization’s domain name, some are registered with IN, and some are registered with dot com.

All citizens should not visit fraudulent websites
The alert further states, therefore, that all citizens applying for an Indian passport and related services should not visit fraudulent websites or make payments related to passport services, otherwise they may face loss. There is only one official website of the Government of India for passport services The official website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for passport services which is www.passportindia.gov.in.
