NY, Former US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he could be arrested soon in a case involving the payment of women and called on his supporters to protest. It is alleged that the former president had sexual relations with these women and asked them not to make the matter public by paying them money.
However, Trump’s lawyer and spokeswoman said there had been no communication from prosecutors, but Trump said in a post on his social media platforms that he could be arrested as soon as Tuesday. He later called out his supporters in a post and took aim at the administration of President Joe Biden.
“We cannot allow this to happen any longer,” he said. They are killing our country and we are just sitting back and watching. We have to save America. Carry out, carry out, carry out.” Trump made a similar call even after the announcement of the result of the last presidential election, which escalated into violence at the US Parliament House complex on January 6, 2021.
Trump’s attorney, Susan Nechels, said Trump’s post was “based on media reports” and a spokeswoman said there was “no notification yet from District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.” The district attorney’s office declined to comment. Following Trump’s post, top Republican leaders, including his potential rivals in the 2024 presidential race, endorsed him.
Trump’s potential rival and former Vice President Mike Pence said: “The idea of impeaching a former president of the United States is deeply troubling to me, as it is to millions of Americans.” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is also among the leaders who supported him. Technology investor Vivek Ramaswamy said he doesn’t want to live in a country where “the ruling party can use police force to arrest their political opponents.”
